I certainly had some high and low moments of the Championships, but I highly believe that the good moments out weighed the bad moments. One of my goals was to be top 10 in the individual events. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best jumps during the championships, but they weren't below my average. Some of the comps, wind was a factor and that is out of my control and you just have to let that go and jump like your capable.
We finished off the races with the team sprint. The coaches decided that Billy and I were the best option for the team sprint. We were hoping to put in some good jumps, putting us within a minute of the leader, but that wasn't the case. Unfortunately, we were too far out in the race to have a good chance at scoring another medal, but that didn't mean we weren't going to try. I ended up having one of my best races of the year, by getting faster with each lap and making up some good time on the other racers.
To end the Championships, Billy, Simi, and I went skiing at the alpine resort Latemar in Predazzo. It was a bluebird day, and the sun was out in full force. I had no regrets spending a $100 to go enjoy ourselves and have some fun on the resort. We were up there the whole morning soaking in the sun and recharging our batteries before going to watch the 50k classic race. From sitting in the sun on the resort to watch this marathon race in the sun was a perfect day. Johan Olsson won the 50k Classic race, while attacking everyone from the beginning of the race and staying away for the whole thing. It was one of my most impressive races I have EVER seen. Major kudos to him and his team. After a day like this, I am mentally ready for another two weeks in abroad for competitions.
I am now in Lahti, Finland for the next world cups. I am ready and excited to race. I feel like my form is in great shape, and I hope to grab another individual podium before the season is over.
