I was looking forward to starting my 5 trip week off on a a strong note. With that I am hoping to carry my momentum and success through the trip and improve on my results.
First competition was the 4x5km team event. The USA has never made the podium in this event besides the Olympics. Our expectations were in check going into the competition and we really wanted to show that we are a strong team even though we are not at our best. Everyone put done solid jumps. I was very happy with the level of jumping of myself as I am still working out some kinks and competition nerves.
Going into the Cross Country portion we knew we had some work to do but, also knew we were very capable of making up the time. Bryan put in a great ski and pulled up closer to the front. I personally had one of my career best races making up a significant amount of time to pass Japan and France and Tagging off close to Austria. Todd, stepped up his game completely catch Austria and tagging Billy off in a great position to pull for the podium. Billy is one of the best skiers in the slushy condition and he showed that by pulling away from Austria and securing a third place in the race.
This is my first podium on the world cup level. It feels very good as I feel like I have finally arrived on the World Cup level and capable of greater results.
The second day of competition was not as great unfortunately. I went into the competition excited to build off of yesterdays results. But after the jumping I had put myself in a very tough position for points. Luckily my racing has never let me down and I was able to ski very fast and Finish in the top 30. Everyday in points is a good day as I am still building and growing.
Thanks to all of our staff for a great weekend, as well as USANA, ATOMIC, FAST BIG DOG RACING/Space Station, SWIX and RUDY PROJECT for the great support.
